Sid Simons is a musician.
I first heard of Sid when he was in his band Girlskin where my friend Ruby played violin in so of course I would support and go check it out for myself.
Girlskin was such a New York band that I loved listening to. Reminded me of all those Patti Smith books I used to read before moving to NYC but without shooting up of course. This isn’t another Sid and Nancy story so piss off! Berlin is still my favorite venue in the East Village that I would find all my favorite local bands and of course anything Jessie Malin touches that supports the underground New York scene.
As time goes on things changed but Sid always remained a musician. Now going solo I had to see for myself. Sid Simons crushing it with opening up for Franz Ferdinand, looks good in a blazer, this is all reminding me of the MTV days.

When I wrote this intro, I was about to say please welcome Elliott Smith to Wear Many Hats. I was like wake up.

So you’re throwing an Elliott Smith benefit concert? It’s perfect timing because I’ve been doing past readings on Elliott Smith because of my band name, Smog Cutter. His music video, ‘Miss Misery’ opens with him coming out of the Smog Cutter bar that my band name is about. Also great track.
What songs were you going to play for the benefit?

I feel as if now every musician in a band is required a pre-requisit to also know how to DJ on Vinyl or CDJs just in case of an emergency.
But you and new friend of the Wear Many Hats show, Maura Brennan has a new DJ night at Victoria Bar. The photos are looking timeless as they are shot in film by Maura, classic times. I heard you also throw your own songs on the speakers.

I hear it’s that time for people to go through a rebrand you know. You going solo, breaking off from having a bandname bandname. Also aliteration helps a lot. Sid Simons. That I can remember. Why go solo?
You’re gearing up for a new single. It’s all about singles these days isn’t. I love when every manager goes, that’s it…that’s the one!
