Podcasting for the First Time
I always was interested in radio. When I was a kid in high school, I joined the radio club a million times a year, only to drop out. It was a hard extra curricular activity to join on top of track & field (which I also dropped out as well) marching band, and tennis. College came around and I tried once more to join the radio club but my school’s radio club was not organized whatsoever even though it tried to be. I wish it was as cool and concise as Drexel’s radio club called WKDU. For one, WKDU is memorable. Dancehall on certain days of the week, electronic music on another, and indie rock on another. They were so organized. They also had their own radio series that they partnered up with throughout Philadelphia. I only wish I went to Drexel to join their radio club but the money is not worth it.
Fast forward to 2018, I worked at Office Coffee at the Canal Street Market and podcasting was a big deal at that time. Everyone wanted a podcast. They made a podcasting / radio station at the back of the market and that’s when I reinvented myself and started Wear Many Hats there. 3 episodes in and my friends told me that I should also shoot video in there. I should have! At the end of my time working at the market, a customer give me a book called “Out On The Wire: The Storytelling Secrets of the New Masters of Radio” by Jessica Abel, forward by Ira Glass and it was the nicest thing anyone ever given to me while exiting a job.
So here I am in 2020 restarting my podcast.
